When Lois was in high school, she had obtained a reputation as a person who hit the books real hard and who rarely, if ever, "painted the town red" by drinking with her classmates. She seemed almost obsessed about doing well academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only got pleasure from but one that also gave her some security from a financial position.

After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into a leading program in history. Her rationale underlying this decision was that this subject area would be a good springboard for law school and would not be similar to the bulk of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.

Lois was the type of person who worked thoroughly to reach her goal and then would take a couple of days off when she could. As it turns out, nonetheless, virtually all of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks did not have much of anything to do with drinking. Needless to say, Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were done and pleased that she had done a super job on her tests, because of this, she felt like celebrating.

So Lois and a number of her friends went to a local club where they had a few drinks. As the evening proceeded, Lois and her classmates continued to drink. In point of fact, she was having such a fantastic time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

Lois was in agreement with this and swore to her Mother and Father and to her friends that she would never again drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner. In her own words, "I never pondered the fact that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local city newspaper. I now grasp the fact that careless and irresponsible drinking is not the best for me. I declare that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also displayed a lot of. In other words, she rapidly understood that she had made an error and made up her mind that she would not make the same mistake again. If truth be told, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this type of irresponsible drinking can result in death.
