A Young Female Beats Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Rehab For Her Hazardous And Abusive Drinking, And Increases Her Self Image
Emily was a forty-seven-year-old photographer who was tired of feeling depressed on a daily basis and sick of her careless drinking behavior. Simply put, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a worthless habit, she was sick of feeling lethargic every morning, she was tired of going through broken relationship after broken relationship due to her abusive drinking, she missed her old enthusiasm for doing various things she enjoyed, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a recurring basis.
In addition to the observable alcohol-related health issues she was experiencing, in all probability the worst part of her drinking behavior was the unreliable and dishonest person she had become. In her heart she knew that she had been dishonest about her drinking activities with family, friends and relatives and she also knew she had been untruthful with herself about the "positive" effects of drinking. Not only this but she justified gulping two or three alcoholic beverages before going to social events and she also made excuses for needing several drinks the first thing in the morning so that she could deal with the "pressures" at work. Stated briefly, Emily got to a time in her life when she saw that she hit a low point in life and was now prepared to start the gradual climb back to health.
One of the ways that Emily put her "plan" into operation was by asking for a transfer at her place of employment. When her request was approved, she moved 750 miles away to a different part of the United States. If nothing else, this certainly made making new buddies and dissociating herself from her old friends easier. Then she phoned a healthcare practitioner in her new town and scheduled an appointment for a comprehensive psychological and physical exam.
After meeting with the physician and going through a number of lab tests, it was concluded that Emily had crossed the line from alcohol abuse to alcoholism and, as a result, really needed alcohol rehabilitation and alcohol detoxification. At this time, the physician made it a point to go over the various alcoholic symptoms and the typical symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to spending a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, the healthcare professional also told Emily that her mental health assessment revealed that she was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for this medical condition.
Due to her willingness to follow through with the treatment program, after nine weeks of inpatient rehabilitation, Emily was ready to initiate treatment on an outpatient basis. At this time, she started working at her new job and over the weeks began fortifying her body by working out, eating wholesome foods, drinking distilled water, vitamins and minerals, and living an alcohol-free way of life.
After roughly ten weeks of outpatient rehabilitation during which time she never suffered through an alcohol relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol treatment and instead started going three times per week to local AA meetings. Going to these meetings helped Emily maintain her alcohol-free way of life, they provided her with the support she required, and they served as a constant reminder of the negative consequences that are linked to excessive and unhealthy drinking. Compared with her life just a few short months ago, life was now pleasant and full of possibilities that she could have never wished for or realized while she was involved in excessive and abusive drinking behavior.
