My first exposure to on-line publications was in college. Although we always had the choice to buy textbooks inside the store, many of the college instructors put their books on-line as well. Doing that would save the pupils money and allow them to access the publications from any PC in the campus. This meant that you never needed to lug around your textbooks - a major benefit after a semester of trudging through the snow.

At first, I wasn't very into books on-line. I couldn't get into the experience, you see. It just didn't feel correct to me. I like to be able to relax with a publication, holding it in my hands and flipping the pages. I could tell where things were spatially and recall the pages by their location. With the book on-line, you cannot do any of these things. It stresses your eyes, calls for you to sit up-right in the same position for hour upon hour, and is quite hard to flip your way through. I also like audio books on CD, though.

After a few years of on-line publication reading, however, I was much more acclimated to the technique, just like I had gotten acclimated to audio books. I had already begun to buy publications on-line for almost every purpose. I bought sports publications on-line, textbooks on-line - you think of it. Not only did the net allow me to buy printed publications inexpensively, but it also allowed me to get into many items that were out of print.

Reading publications online isn't really that good for modern literature which you can buy in the store. You might as well either purchase it or take it out of the library, or hear it, with books on cd. The cool thing about publications online, however, is that you may often find quite old ones with very little trouble. Resources like Project Gutenberg enable you to access the great classics of prose from all places and times around the globe. As long as it's no longer copy-protected, you can legally put the publication online.

Naturally, the area where publications online have the maximum benefit of all is with audio publications. The great thing about audio publications on-line is that it's so much more handy than needing to take them out of the library or turn to an audio publication shop. Instead, you can simply down-load them to your PC and listen to them at your leisure. If you would like to bring them with you, you can put them on an mp3 player or put them on compact disk. Audio publications on-line make a lot of sense.
